Spotlight on : Phil Casabon

Phil Casabon Season Recap Edit

When he isn’t globetrotting and spreading the gospel of Steeze, you can catch Phil Casabon hanging out at the Orage global HQ giving his input on his pro model, checking out photos for ads, or just hanging with the crew. When we saw all of the footage that Phil logged in 2010, we figured we had to drop an edit of our own. No stranger to the editing studio, Phil was happy to step in and help pick out his favorite shots from 2010 including a few that you won’t see anywhere else.

We also got the chance to sit down with Phil and catch up on his past few months of traveling and filming. His latest footage can be found in the B&E Show – Muddy Winter which has recently topped the 100,000 views milestone (in just a little over a month since its’ release). It’s safe to say that Phil has come out swinging for the 2010-11 season. Guaranteed, you’ll be seeing more next-level riding from Phil once the lifts start turning and the snow piles up…

Orage: You skied in three summer camp hot spots on three different continents. What’s different about the summer ski scene in France, Oregon, and New Zealand?
B-Dog: The difference between the Les 2 Alpes camp and Hood’s was that Les 2 Alpes was only Danish people so everyone of them was familiar with each other and all, as opposed in Hood where it is just a lot of campers from a bunch of different places which is ill also, and as far as coaches vibe, both were mad fun. Windell’s had my favorite park… So much terrain and so fun. I spent most of the summer skiing with JF Houle, B-Paul, Ham Godbout, E’dollo, Pat Batskins, Taylor Seaton, Liam Downey, Mike Hornbeck, the Armada crew and my Girlfriend. Best after-camp scene was definitely Windells cause of the Ark gillin’ and the skatepark at Windells.

Orage: As always, you got a bulk of the filming done with your partner in crime E’dollo. Who else were you able to film with this summer?
B-Dog: Brandon Husak whom made an ArCast with it and Troels Iversen… all those shots also ended up in the B&E thanks to them!
Orage: Was there one single session that stood out as the best of the summer?
B-Dog: There was a lot of good ones… Most intense was probably on Sammy’s jump which was mad fun and just all summer was so fun.
Orage: What would you guys do in your down time when you weren’t up on the mountain filming?
B-Dog: Juggle, listen to music, skate, meditate..

Orage: How did you guys get hooked up with Inspired Media? Any plans for future edits with Tanner?
B-Dog: This summer when D-structure was hosting a water ramp camp and Iberg and Tanner where there and told me about it and it was the most ill concept I’ve heard o’ve.. Stoked to be a part of it! Yea for sure B&E has big plans at the moment and we are stoked to discuss and see what we are going to make happen with Inspired!

Line Ski's 2010

Created in 1995 by Jason Levinthal, a skier and snowboarder who wanted the former to have the same performance as the latter.

Line ski's are cool. This is a thought reflected by pretty much all skiers. Line consistently innovate year to year, be it their 'Afterbang' ski from last year or the new to 2010 'Mastermind' Line continue to push the sport.
Although Line do not manufacture outerwear such as jackets and pants, they do have some seriously cool clobber including: hoodies, tees, hats and of course their super arty ski's.

Stance Hoodie

Influence Hoodie

Propaganda Cap

Focus Beanie

Chronic Tee

Afterbang Ski

Mastermind Ski

Riders include: one of my favourite jibbers, Max Hill, Ian Compton, Will Wesson, LJ Strenio and the legendary, Eric Pollard.
Check out Line's famous webisode, Travelling Circus, which of course includes some of the new seasons gear.

Salomon Super Tech ''Shadow'' jacket and pants

Still trying to find some half decent looking Salomon gear for 10/11. But in the mean time, Salomon have a great triple layer Gore-Tex number here.
The most technical jacket and pant that Salomon makes, The Shadow with its 3 layer Gore-Tex, light but durable face fabric, helmet volume hood and a Recco avalanche reflector to ensure that if you come a cropper to mother natures wicked rath, you will have all the help you need. ( although avalanche tranciever's and avalanche airbag's would be alot more useful!)

Jacket from around £400
Pants from £350

Check out Mike Douglas' review below.

JIBERISH!, sooo hot right now err and always has been i guess. ''Hey do you know Tom Wallisch rides for them!''

Expect alot from the Jiberish boys this Winter. Notouriously hard to get hold of in  the U.K, Jiberish is best bought on U.S sites or E-Bay.

WARNING!!! takes a VERY good park skier to get away with wearing it, or else people will think that you're a knob.

Check out some of their gear in this edit. I will put up the Winter10/11 line when it is realeased.

2010/11 Collections

As London fashion week gets underway, we take a look at the new ranges from the top skiwear manufacturers both technical and steezy....

Armada - Tanner Hall & JP Auclair's company have a new interactive feature on thier website which allows you to build a look from its new 2010/11 range.

Cruiser Jacket in Lime/Sky

First Drop Outerwear - The fledgling clothing company that in thier own words ''was conceived after years of personal discontent in the ski industry'', continue to hit high notes with your local park rats and jibbers with yet another super colourful and equally versitile collection. With popular skiers Liam Downey and the super laid back LJ Strenio on the team, then FD is set to become a sure fire hit again this season, and has also gone down the ever present interactive route to enable user ease.

First Drop's 2010/11 Winter Collection

Probably one of the biggest stories of this month in the Ski community is the signing of Tom Wallisch, Nick Martini and Mike Riddle to The North Face team. Tom Wallisch only signed a full deal with Scott in the early part of the year, but with Dew Tour and euro X-Games wins under his belt along with his total domination of park and urban has attracted the attention of the largest mountainwear company. Nick Martini who is one of the most talented youngsters on the scene right now (see Poor Boys Productions - Everyday Is A Saturday) and the super stylish pipe skier Mike Riddle, expect BIG things from The North Face for this coming Winter collection. I will post the collection when it comes available.

Saga - Another company which teeters more towards baggy parkwear. Saga with pro riders such as Tim Durtschi, Ian 'Chug' Cosco and Collin Collins are a firm favourite with jibbers everywhere. With thier 2010/11 collection echoing the thoughts of the other park specific clothing companies with thier uber baggy colourful jackets and pants, should stand them in good stead to be seen on kickers and rails all over the US and Europe this coming season.

PBP Revolver drop

PoorBoyzProduction ''Revolver'' Teaser

With the summer season soon coming to an end, production companies are now starting to upload the ''teaser'' edits from the 09/10 season.
Easily my favourite movie last year was,Everyday is a Saturday by Poor Boyz Productions (PBP) .
Poor Boyz really wanted to, and did, raise the bar in freeskiing movies and their latest trailer for the 2010 movie 'Revolver' is a continuation of that thesis.
